Croydon Shire Council is seeking an experienced and hands-on Workshop Leading Hand to support the delivery of essential mechanical and infrastructure services across the region.

The Position
Reporting to the Director of Infrastructure, the Workshop Leading Hand is responsible for leading workshop operations while remaining actively involved in the servicing, fault diagnosis and repair of Council’s fleet and plant.
The role covers a broad range of mechanical work including diesel and petrol engines, hydraulics, welding, electrical systems and air conditioning. You will also coordinate workshop materials and parts, manage registrations and contractors, and contribute to plant replacement planning and operational improvements.
This role is suited to someone who enjoys practical leadership, takes pride in maintaining reliable equipment and values working within a close-knit regional team where your contribution has visible impact every day.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead daily workshop and mechanical operations
- Undertake servicing, diagnostics and repairs on plant and fleet
- Coordinate workshop materials, contractors and registrations
- Support fleet maintenance and infrastructure operations
- Maintain safe, compliant and efficient workshop practices
Skills & Experience Required
- Qualified tradesperson with relevant mechanical experience
- Current MC Class Driver Licence
- Experience with diesel and petrol engines, hydraulics and welding
- Knowledge of air conditioning and electrical systems
- Strong organisational and problem-solving skills
- Ability to lead by example and manage competing priorities
- Previous leadership or supervisory experience (desirable)

• Base salary from $100,000 per annum
