Croydon Shire Council is seeking a reliable and hands-on Handyman / Labourer to support the delivery of Council’s works program. This full-time role involves general maintenance, carpentry, repairs, and labouring duties across Council buildings and facilities.

The Position
The Handyman / Labourer plays a vital role in maintaining Council infrastructure through a variety of hands-on tasks. The role includes carpentry, general maintenance, small building works, and safe operation of Council equipment and tools.
Reporting to senior staff within the Works Department, this position contributes to the upkeep of Council-owned assets and ensures the smooth delivery of Council’s operational and maintenance programs.
This is a practical and physically active role, suited to someone with a broad trade or handyman background and a strong commitment to safety and quality.
Key Responsibilities

Perform general handyman and labouring duties across Council assets

Assist with carpentry works including repairs, maintenance, and minor building alterations

Operate tools, plant, and equipment in a safe and efficient manner

Complete tasks in line with workplace health and safety procedures, including risk assessments

Support Council’s works program with additional labour duties as needed

Follow directions and complete duties within scope of skills, training, and competency
Skills & Experience Required
-
A genuine interest and passion for practical maintenance and handyman tasks

Current Class C Driver’s Licence (mandatory)

Experience operating plant, machinery, and general hand tools

Physically fit and capable of performing labour-intensive duties

Sound literacy and numeracy skills

Ability to work with limited supervision using initiative and judgement

Commitment to safe work practices and quality outcomes
