LGAQ Awards 2025

Published on 26 October 2025

Croydon Shire Council has been acknowledged at the 129th LGAQ Annual Conference, receiving recognition for both innovative workplace safety initiatives and long-standing leadership.

Council was awarded the LGMS Risk Excellence Award for its proactive approach to managing risk and safeguarding employees working in remote areas. Following the closure of the Thuraya Satellite Phone network, Council introduced the GEOTAB satellite-based vehicle monitoring system to provide real-time GPS tracking, emergency alerts, and accurate fleet data. This technology, supported by Starlink Communications in selected vehicles, enables reliable connectivity across areas with no mobile coverage—enhancing safety, efficiency, and staff wellbeing.

In addition, Mayor Trevor Pickering was honoured with a Long Service Award in recognition of his 25 years of commitment to Croydon Shire Council and the local community. His decades of service reflect strong leadership, a deep understanding of the region, and ongoing dedication to community growth and local government values.

These achievements highlight Croydon Shire Council’s continued focus on innovation, safety, and service excellence for the people of Croydon and the Gulf Savannah region.

We’re truly honoured — and this recognition only strengthens our ambition for Croydon’s future.
