Cost: $1,314.50 per person
Optional Kit: JCT Snake Catching Kit – $715 (includes one JCT Snake Bite First Aid Kit and one pair of JCT Snake Bite Protective Gaiters)

Course Overview
This three-day intensive program provides participants with the theoretical knowledge and practical skills required to safely identify, handle, and relocate venomous snakes. Designed for land managers, council staff, emergency services, pest controllers, and individuals working in rural or outdoor environments, the course focuses on personal safety, professional techniques, and legal obligations associated with snake management.
Led by experienced wildlife specialist Julian Craig, the training combines classroom instruction with hands-on fieldwork using controlled and humane handling practices. Participants will learn the latest first aid procedures for snake bite response, gain confidence in handling equipment, and develop an understanding of snake biology and behaviour.
Course Content
Over three days, participants will cover:

Safety protocols and risk management for working around venomous snakes

Snake behaviour and identification, including recognition of Australian elapid species

First aid and emergency response, including correct bandaging, envenomation management, and hospital procedures

Legal and ethical considerations for handling and relocating native wildlife

Practical snake catching and restraint techniques, including advanced tailing methods and the use of appropriate tools

Health and safety awareness when working with reptiles

Communication and emergency planning in remote or high-risk areas
Learning Outcomes
Upon successful completion, participants will be able to:

What to Wear
Participants are required to wear loose-fitting, heavyweight trousers (such as jeans), a long-sleeved shirt, and leather boots. Knee-high canvas gaiters will be supplied by the trainer.
