Parks and Gardens – Leading Hand

Croydon Shire Council is seeking a motivated and experienced Parks and Gardens Leading Hand to join our team in a full-time capacity. 
You’ll lead and support a small team in maintaining and enhancing Croydon’s parks, gardens, streetscapes, and public spaces. From garden bed care to irrigation systems, this role ensures our town remains tidy, vibrant and welcoming for residents and visitors alike. Reporting to the Works Manager, this hands-on role combines daily task coordination, equipment and asset maintenance, and the supervision of outdoor crews.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Mowing, weeding, tree management, and garden maintenance

  • Supervising team members and contractors

  • Operating small machinery such as mowers, brushcutters and chainsaws

  • Maintaining irrigation systems, street furniture, and playgrounds

  • Ensuring high standards of safety and compliance across worksites

Skills & Experience Required:

  • Prior experience in horticulture, arboriculture or parks maintenance

  • Demonstrated experience in leading work crews (local government or private sector)

  • Skilled in the use of small plant and outdoor equipment

  • Strong communication, planning and team support skills

  • Sound literacy and numeracy
